Submission DEADLINE: DECEMBER 31, 2020

The Brown University Medicine-Pediatrics Residency participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Applications are accepted from graduates of approved medical schools exclusively through the AAMC Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). M.D. and D.O. graduates from U.S. schools register for ERAS through their Dean’s office.

The COVID-19 pandemic is changing everything in how we live, work and practice medicine.  It will change recruitment season as well.  Our 2020-21 Recruitment cycle aligns with the recommendations of the Coalition for Physician Accountability.  We will offer virtual interviews and alter usual application requirements (i.e. completion of sub-internships and Step2 are not required to review applications).

LORs, USMLEs & "Required"

Applicants are asked to submit 3 letters of reference (LOR) in addition to their Dean’s letter. At least one LOR should be from Pediatrics and one from Internal Medicine (options include a letter from your Chair, department or clerkship director, or other faculty you’ve worked with in the specialty). The writer for the additional one or two letters are at the discretion of the applicant.
Many students will have had disruptions in their 2020 rotations, including limited access to sub-internships. We are interested in your clinical experiences, but will NOT require specific sub-internships or other rotations for consideration of your application in ERAS.
We review ALL applications holistically; we do not require Step 2 scores for initial review of applications.

The ECFMG serves as the Dean’s Office for all IMGs, including USIMGs. Please be advised that the program is not able to support H-1 visas. US clinical experience is strongly recommended.

invitation to interview

Interview invitations will be sent within 2 weeks of ERAS release of full applications for review (on May 11th, ERAS announced a posting date of Oct 21st).  We typically offer interviews over eight Mondays in November, December and January.  Current planned dates are:

These are TENTATIVE dates for 2020-21.  We will make every effort to accommodate your preference for interview day, but we cannot guarantee the availability of all dates.

What does that look like in a typical year?  We invite applicants to a pre-inteview informal gathering in a resident’s home on Sunday evening.  The interview day would begin at 7:15AM at Rhode Island and Hasbro Children’s Hospitals, and end by 3:30pm.
We are working on the best virtual options to give you a chance to interact with residents, faculty, and staff, to experience our clinic, hospitals, and learning environment, and to get to know Providence and our community.

We’re open to your input as to what would help you get to know us.

An email confirming your interview date will be sent to you shortly before your interview day.
